Project Summary
Organization of African Youth (OAY) is implementing evidence-based intervention targeting young people in Kisumu based on outcomes of GFF supported assessment findings of a survey conducted in Kisumu in 2021. The assessment sought to access AY prioritization in the 2016-2020 Kenya’s RMNCAH+N investment case, and other global, national and county level policies and strategy policy documents, their implementation and effect on responsiveness of AYSRH services, products and information in Nairobi and Kisumu counties. The aim was to generate evidence, including the effect of COVID-19 on access to SRHR services, products and information for vulnerable AY, to inform the prioritization of AY agenda. The assessment compiled feedback from youth and young people of the age bracket 15 -24 years since there is a relation to the contribution of new adult HIV infections and raising a concern about meaningful targeting and involvement of youth in ASRH programming. The findings established that there are services and information gaps among young people leading to low uptake of services especially , with regard to access to services and information at PHC. In 2022, OAY youth advictaes in Kisumu designed The #Timiza Ahadi Project (Implement Commitments) that seeks to create a culture of mutual accountability from young people and duty bearers based on what is expected of them. The project targets young people in an urban setup aged 15- 24 years in Kisumu City. Most young people in a city environment see their peers as less important as a determinant of behavior and may enter into intimate sexual and emotional relationships therefore there is a need to mentor them to facilitate their access to sexual and reproductive healthcare.
